Lesson Plan: Sources of Radiation Science

This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to identify different sources of nuclear radiation.

Objectives

Students will be able to

  • recognise that nuclear radiation is naturally produced by the Earth and by objects in space.
  • recognise that radioactive material has been released by nuclear weapons tests and nuclear reactor accidents.

Prerequisites

Students should already be familiar with

  • the term ‘nuclear radiation’.

Exclusions

Students will not cover

  • comparisons of the relative magnitudes of activity due to natural and artificial radiation sources.
