This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to multiply and divide square roots and use that to simplify expressions.

Objectives

Students will be able to

  • use the property 𝑎𝑎=𝑎 to simplify the multiplication of square roots,
  • simplify the multiplication of square roots using distribution (and other properties of multiplication),
  • use the property 𝑎𝑏=𝑎𝑏 to simplify the multiplication of square roots,
  • use the property 𝑎𝑏=𝑎𝑏 to simplify the division of square roots (for simple cases).

Prerequisites

Students should already be familiar with

  • the real numbers system,
  • properties of multiplication over real numbers,
  • the addition and subtraction of radical expressions.

Exclusions
