Lesson Plan: Renewable Energy Sources

This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to identify renewable energy sources and describe how they are used.

Objectives

Students will be able to

  • define renewable energy,
  • describe renewable energy resources such as water, the Sun, biomass, and wind,
  • explain how renewable energy sources are used for energy in the forms of hydropower, wind energy, geothermal energy, biofuels, and solar energy,
  • compare the advantages and disadvantages of different renewable energy sources.

Prerequisites

Students should already be familiar with

  • nonrenewable energy sources,
  • different forms of energy including nuclear, thermal, chemical, and kinetic.

Exclusions

Students will not cover

  • the environmental impacts of renewable energy.
