This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to identify and graph linear relations between two variables given the relation in the form 𝑎𝑥 + 𝑏𝑦 = 𝑐 and write the ordered pairs that satisfy the given equation.

Objectives

Students will be able to

  • form ordered pairs for a linear relationship in the form 𝑎𝑥+𝑏𝑦=𝑐,
  • complete a table of values for a linear relationship in the form 𝑎𝑥+𝑏𝑦=𝑐,
  • find the value of a constant in a relation in the form 𝑎𝑥+𝑏𝑦=𝑐 given an ordered pair that satisfies the relation,
  • graph relations in the form 𝑎𝑥+𝑏𝑦=𝑐 when 𝑎=0,
  • graph relations in the form 𝑎𝑥+𝑏𝑦=𝑐 when 𝑏=0,
  • graph relations in the form 𝑎𝑥+𝑏𝑦=𝑐 when 𝑎0 and 𝑏0.

Prerequisites

Students should already be familiar with

  • performing operations on algebraic expressions,
  • evaluating expressions at a given value.

Exclusions

Students will not cover

  • relations that are not in the form 𝑎𝑥+𝑏𝑦=𝑐,
  • finding the slope of a line,
  • nonlinear relations.
