Lesson Plan: Converting Capacity: Metric Units Mathematics
This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to convert between and compare whole numbers of cubic meters, cubic decimeters, cubic centimeters, liters, and milliliters and solve word problems.
Objectives
Students will be able to
- describe the relationship between metric units of volume and units of capacity,
- convert between metric units of measurements for volume and capacity,
- compare capacity by converting between different metric units,
- solve problems by converting between metric measurements of capacity.
Prerequisites
Students should already be familiar with
- the relationship between liters and milliliters and how to convert between them,
- multiplying and dividing by powers of 10.
Exclusions
Students will not cover
- converting between non-metric measurements of capacity.
