Lesson Plan: Representing Sequences Mathematics
This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to represent a sequence as a function of a positive integer variable called an index (𝑛).
Objectives
Students will be able to
- write an expression for the term of a given geometric or arithmetic sequence,
- write an expression for the term of a given arithmetic sequence when given any numbered term and the common ratio,
- write an expression for the term of a geometric sequence when given any numbered term and the common ratio,
- find any numbered term of a sequence when given an expression for the term,
- write out a sequence when given an expression for the term.
Prerequisites
Students should already be familiar with
- arithmetic sequences,
- geometric sequences.
Exclusions
Students will not cover
- questions not involving the term of a sequence.
