This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to use scientific skills to sort and group things according to shared characteristics.
Objectives
Students will be able to
- compare and contrast groups of objects or living things,
- group things according to shared characteristics,
- use a key to identify objects or living things.
Prerequisites
Students should already be familiar with
- living and nonliving things,
- characteristics of living things,
- describing features of things,
- identifying living things.
Exclusions
Students will not cover
- using specific keys to identify types of things, such as using a dichotomous key to identify plants,
- defining groups based on shared characteristics,
- classifying living things based on taxonomy.
