Lesson Plan: Decomposers in Ecosystems

Objectives
Students will be able to
- define the terms decomposer and microbe,
- identify and describe the process of decomposition,
- describe the importance of decomposers in ecosystems,
- investigate how moisture affects decomposition.
Prerequisites
Students should already be familiar with
- the idea that organisms get energy from food, which they need to survive,
- ecosystems.
Exclusions
Students will not cover
- food webs,
- food chains.
