Lesson Plan: Average Speed Science

This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to distinguish between uniform speed and average speed.

Objectives

Students will be able to

  • recall that the average speed of an object is the total distance moved by it over the total time taken to move,
  • use 𝑣=Δ𝑑Δ𝑡 (the average speed formula) in all permutations,
  • recognize that the term nonuniform speed means that an object does not move equal distances in equal time intervals.

Prerequisites

Students should already be familiar with

  • how to calculate uniform speed.

Exclusions

Students will not cover

  • velocity,
  • acceleration,
  • relative speed,
  • instantaneous speed,
  • graphs.
