This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to count forward or backward in steps of two, five, ten, and one hundred with numbers up to one thousand.
Objectives
Students will be able to
- count in twos, fives, tens, or hundreds,
- use number lines to count in steps of two, five, ten, and hundred within one thousand,
- skip count forward and backward in twos, fives, tens, and hundreds within one thousand,
- complete number sequences by counting in twos, fives, tens, and hundreds within one thousand.
Prerequisites
Students should already be familiar with
- counting in twos, fives, and tens up to one hundred and one hundred and twenty,
- skip counting,
- using number lines, tracks, and grids,
- counting using objects such as place value blocks and counters.
Exclusions
Students will not cover
- counting from numbers that are not multiples of the number they are counting in,
- counting in fifties and twenty-fives,
- counting sequences that only consist of two-digit numbers,
- numbers larger than one thousand.
