Objectives
Students will be able to
- understand that if two variables are proportional to each other (i.e., or ), then their graph is a straight line through the origin,
- determine whether a linear model is appropriate for given data by considering its graph,
- write an equation for the line that models the relationship between two variables,
- solve real-world problems by considering the linear model.
Prerequisites
Students should already be familiar with
- equations for straight lines,
- gradients,
- - and -intercepts.
Exclusions
Students will not cover
- linear regression,
- modeling data not governed by a linear relationship.
