Lesson Plan: Real Numbers Mathematics • 8th Grade
This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to identify the relationships between the subsets of the real numbers and how to represent real numbers on number lines.
Objectives
Students will be able to
- understand the relationships between natural numbers, integers, rational numbers, and irrational numbers as subsets of the real numbers,
- identify which subsets of the real numbers a given number belongs to,
- represent a real number on the number line.
Prerequisites
Students should already be familiar with
- natural and integer numbers,
- rational and irrational numbers.
Exclusions
Students will not cover
- ordering arbitrary real numbers,
- intervals.
