Lesson Plan: Design of the Voltmeter Physics
This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to describe combining a galvanometer with a multiplier resistor to design a DC Voltmeter.
Objectives
Students will be able to
- describe the appropriate connection of a galvanometer and multiplier resistor to produce a voltmeter,
- explain the required resistance ratio of the galvanometer and multiplier,
- calculate the measurement range of a voltmeter from the current required for a full-scale deflection of the galvanometer and the ratio of the resistance of the galvanometer to the multiplier.
Prerequisites
Students should already be familiar with
- galvanometers,
- Ohm’s law,
- parallel circuits.
Exclusions
Students will not cover
- ammeters,
- ohmmeters,
- calculations of magnetic fields.
