Lesson Plan: The Areas of Squares and Rhombuses in terms of Their Diagonals
This lesson plan includes the objectives and prerequisites of the lesson teaching students how to find the areas of rectangles and squares and solve real-life problems.
Objectives
Students will be able to
- use models to show that the area of a square and a rhombus can be found using diagonal length diagonal length,
- find the areas of squares and rhombuses given the lengths of their diagonals,
- solve problems involving finding the areas of squares and rhombuses using diagonals.
Prerequisites
Students should already be familiar with
- finding the area of a square using the side length,
- finding the area of a parallelogram.
