Lesson Plan: Stratified Random Sampling Mathematics
This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to take a stratified, or layered, random sample.
Objectives
Students will be able to
- understand what stratified, or layered, random sampling is and how it is performed,
- determine if stratified random sampling has been used as a sampling method in a real-life context,
- how to take a stratified random sample.
Prerequisites
Students should already be familiar with
- working with data, such as organizing data in a table, displaying data in a graph, and calculating averages,
- sampling and population methods,
- proportional reasoning.
Exclusions
Students will not cover
- other sampling methods,
- biased and unbiased sampling.
