Lesson Plan: Shadows
This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to explain why shadows have the same shape as the objects that cast them and investigate shadows.
Objectives
Students will be able to
- explain why shadows have the same shape as the objects that cast them,
- identify the shadows that different objects would form,
- interpret data from investigations into shadows.
Prerequisites
Students should already be familiar with
- the fact that light travels in straight lines,
- how shadows form,
- the meaning of opaque, translucent, and transparent,
- what happens to shadows when the light source moves or the distance between the light source and the object changes.
Exclusions
Students will not cover
- the term light waves.
