# Lesson Plan: Probability of Simple Events Mathematics

This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to find the probability of a simple event.

#### Objectives

Students will be able to

- calculate the probability of a simple event given the number of occurrences of a desired event divided by the total number of outcomes,
- determine, from a frequency table, the number of occurrences of a desired event and the total number of outcomes in order to find the probability of that event,
- determine, given a context, the number of occurrences of a desired event and the total number of events in order to find the probability of that event,
- determine whether the probability of an event is certain, likely, even, unlikely, or impossible given the probability.

#### Prerequisites

Students should already be familiar with

- the concept of sample space and outcomes,
- set notation,
- properties of numbers such as primes, factors, and multiples,
- fractions, percentages, and decimals.

#### Exclusions

Students will not cover

- calculating the probability of operations on events,
- the probability of the complement of an event.
