Lesson Plan: Parents and Offspring Science

This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to identify parents and offspring.

Objectives

Students will be able to

  • define parent and offspring,
  • explain that animals, including humans, have offspring that grow into adults,
  • match parents and offspring,
  • compare and contrast parents and offspring.

Prerequisites

Students should already be familiar with

  • the names of common adult and baby animals,
  • the main parts of an animal’s body.

Exclusions

Students will not cover

  • reproduction in plants,
  • any details of reproduction in humans and other animals,
  • the term life stages in reference to growth in humans,
  • traits,
  • life cycles of humans or other animals.
