Lesson Plan: Lagrange Error Bound Mathematics
This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to use the Lagrange error bound (Taylor’s theorem with remainders) to find the maximum error when using Taylor polynomial approximations.
Objectives
Students will be able to
- use the Lagrange error bound to find the maximum error when using Taylor polynomial approximations,
- use the Lagrange error bound to find the number of terms of a Taylor polynomial required to make an approximation to a specified degree of accuracy.
Prerequisites
Students should already be familiar with
- Taylor polynomials and Taylor series.
Exclusions
Students will not cover
- Maclaurin series.
