Objectives

Students will be able to

  • perform addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division on numbers given in scientific notation,
  • evaluate combinations of operations applied to numbers given in scientific notation,
  • solve word problems using number operations where the numbers are given in scientific notation.

Prerequisites

Students should already be familiar with

  • integer exponents,
  • numbers given in scientific notation,
  • converting between normal numbers and scientific notation.

Exclusions

Students will not cover

  • operations other than addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division,
  • roots and fractional exponents.
