Lesson Plan: Differentiation of Exponential Functions Mathematics
This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to find the derivatives of exponential functions.
Objectives
Students will be able to
- differentiate exponential functions from first principles,
- differentiate exponential functions where the base is Euler’s number,
- differentiate exponential functions where the base is a constant,
- differentiate exponential functions with linear exponents,
- differentiate exponential functions with quadratic exponents,
- use the chain, product, and quotient rules for differentiation in order to differentiate exponential functions,
- evaluate the differential of an exponential function at a given point.
Prerequisites
Students should already be familiar with
- the chain, product, and quotient rules of differentiation,
- differentiating trigonometric functions.
Exclusions
Students will not cover
- differentiation of logarithmic functions.
