Lesson Plan: Cracking of Hydrocarbons Chemistry • 7th Grade
This lesson plan includes the objectives of the lesson teaching students how to explain the catalytic cracking of alkanes and its importance and describe the process on an industrial scale.
Objectives
Students will be able to
- describe the process of cracking hydrocarbons,
- explain the supply and demand for different fractions in order to explain why cracking is necessary,
- explain how a given alkane could be broken down in order to identify the possible products of cracking reactions,
- write or balance symbolic equations for cracking reactions.
