Lesson Plan: Doped Semiconductors Physics • Third Year of Secondary School
This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to describe the effect that doping a semiconductor has on its electrical properties.
Objectives
Students will be able to
- describe how adding donor and acceptor ions to a pure semiconductor’s atomic lattice produces free electrons and vacancies in the lattice,
- relate the free electron and vacancy densities of a doped semiconductor using the formula ,
- relate the free electron and vacancy densities to the acceptor and donor ion densities in a doped semiconductor using the formulas ,
- relate the free electron and vacancy densities to the acceptor and donor ion densities in a doped semiconductor using the formulas .
Prerequisites
Students should already be familiar with
- pure semiconductors.
Exclusions
Students will not cover
- semiconductor junctions.
