Lesson Plan: Domain and Range of a Function Mathematics

Objectives
Students will be able to
- recall the definitions of the domain and the range of a function,
- identify the ordered pairs of a function given the domain, range, and equation of the function,
- identify the range of a function given the domain and the equation of the function,
- identify the domain of a function given the range and equation of the function,
- identify the domain and range of a discrete function and mapping diagram,
- identify the domain and range of a function given a graph of the function,
- identify the domain and range of a function given the equation of the function.
Prerequisites
Students should already be familiar with
- identifying, representing, and recognizing functions from descriptions, arrow diagrams, and graphs,
- function notation,
- set notation,
- representing relations,
- evaluating functions.
Exclusions
Students will not cover
- piecewise functions,
- rational functions.
