Lesson Plan: Hormonal Control Biology
This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to describe the structure and function of the human endocrine system.
Objectives
Students will be able to
- define hormones as chemical messengers that travel through the bloodstream to act on target organs,
- recall that hormones are released by endocrine glands in the human body,
- identify the pituitary gland, pancreas, thyroid, adrenal gland, ovary, and testes in the human body and recall hormones released by these glands,
- describe the effects of the endocrine system as slow acting but long lasting.
Prerequisites
Students should already be familiar with
- the major organs of the human body.
Exclusions
Students will not cover
- details of negative feedback and its role in hormonal control.
