Lesson Plan: Water Absorption and Root Hairs Science
This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to identify the layers of a plant root and describe the importance of root hairs in the absorption of water and mineral salts from the soil.
Objectives
Students will be able to
- identify materials that plants need to carry out life processes,
- describe functions of the root system,
- identify the main layers of a root from a cross section,
- describe the structure and functions of a root hair.
Prerequisites
Students should already be familiar with
- the parts of a plant cell, particularly the vacuole,
- the basic parts of a plant such as the shoot system and the root system.
Exclusions
Students will not cover
- transpiration.
