Lesson Plan: Making 17, 18, and 19 Mathematics • Kindergarten

This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to make the numbers 17, 18, and 19 from 10 ones and some more ones.

Objectives

Students will be able to

  • use models to represent the numbers 17, 18, and 19,
  • describe the numbers 17, 18, and 19 in terms of 10 ones and 7, 8, or 9 more ones,
  • solve problems where it is necessary to know how to decompose 17, 18, or 19 into 10 ones and some more ones.

Prerequisites

Students should already be familiar with

  • making numbers from 1–16,
  • reading and writing numbers up to 20,
  • counting to 20.

Exclusions

Students will not cover

  • modeling numbers other than 17, 18, or 19,
  • number sentences (representing values as additions).
