Lesson Plan: Arcminutes and Arcseconds
This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to convert between degrees, arcminutes, and arcseconds and interpret angles expressed as degrees, arcminutes, and arcseconds.
Objectives
Students will be able to
- recall that there are 60 arcminutes in 1 degree,
- recall that there are 60 arcseconds in 1 arcminute,
- convert between arcminutes and degrees,
- convert between arcseconds and arcminutes,
- understand the notation for degrees, minutes, and seconds and convert to decimal notations.
Prerequisites
Students should already be familiar with
- degrees.
Exclusions
Students will not cover
- the notation for hours, minutes, and seconds,
- positions in right ascension and declination.
