Lesson Plan: Loci in the Complex Plane Using the Argument Mathematics
This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to find the loci of a complex equation in the complex plane defined in terms of the argument.
Objectives
Students will be able to
- use the argument in the same way that we use the modulus to define loci in the complex plane,
- interpret the loci of points that satisfy certain equations and investigate their properties,
- describe loci of points satisfying ,
- describe loci of points satisfying .
Prerequisites
Students should already be familiar with
- complex numbers, in polar and Cartesian form,
- the complex plane.
Exclusions
Students will not cover
- transformations of the complex plane,
- Möbius transformations.
