Lesson Plan: “Will,” “Be Going to,” and the Future Continuous English
This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to use the future simple, “going to + infinitive,” and the future continuous to talk about food sustainability.
Objectives
Students will be able to
- use the future simple to talk about predictions without evidence and facts in the future,
- use the “going to + infinitive” future form for warnings and predictions with evidence,
- use the “going to + infinitive” future form to talk about plans, intentions, and decisions,
- practise all uses of the “going to + infinitive” future form,
- use the future continuous to talk about events that will happen at a specific time,
- use the future continuous to talk about a future activity that will only happen for a short period of time,
- use the future continuous to talk about an activity that will start before another in the future,
- understand the difference in form between the future simple and future continuous.
Prerequisites
Students should already be familiar with
- the future simple,
- the future form “going to + infinitive.”
Exclusions
Students will not cover
- passive forms,
- creating the future continuous with “going to + verb + ing.”
