Lesson Plan: Quarters Mathematics • 1st Grade
This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to divide shapes into four equal parts, name each part as a fourth or a quarter, and know how many quarters or fourths make a whole.
Objectives
Students will be able to
- divide circles and rectangles into four equal parts, identifying each part as a quarter or a fourth,
- identify how many quarters or fourths make a whole,
- understand that decomposing circles and rectangles into quarters makes smaller shares.
Prerequisites
Students should already be familiar with
- dividing 2D shapes into equal parts,
- identifying halves.
Exclusions
Students will not cover
- fraction notation.
