Lesson Plan: The Needs of Plants
This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to describe and explain the needs of plants and how humans can help to look after plants.
Objectives
Students will be able to
- identify the needs of plants,
- describe the reason for each of the plant’s needs,
- describe how people can help plants grow,
- name examples of plants that can be planted in different seasons,
- name nutrients and minerals as the substances provided by the soil,
- describe how plants in the same area may need to compete for resources.
Prerequisites
Students should already be familiar with
- fruits and vegetables,
- the needs of living things,
- weather and seasons,
- outer plant parts and their functions.
Exclusions
Students will not cover
- specific nutrients and minerals in soil,
- healthy food choices,
- farming.
