Lesson Plan: Adaptations of Desert Organisms Science

This lesson plan includes the objectives and prerequisites of the lesson teaching students how to describe the conditions of a desert and outline adaptations that plants and animals have to survive in a desert.

Objectives

Students will be able to

  • recall that a desert is a harsh environment that animals need to be highly adapted to,
  • describe the adaptations of desert plants to this hot and dry environment, using cacti as an example,
  • describe the adaptations of desert animals to this environment, using camels and oryxes as examples.

Prerequisites

Students should already be familiar with

  • the concept that animals and plants live in specific habitats they are well-suited for.
