Lesson Plan: Vectors in terms of Fundamental Unit Vectors Mathematics
This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to write vectors in component form using fundamental unit vectors.
Objectives
Students will be able to
- identify the fundamental unit vectors in the two axes,
- express a vector in terms of the fundamental unit vectors,
- convert a vector in terms of fundamental unit vectors to its component form and vice versa.
Prerequisites
Students should already be familiar with
- vectors presented in component form,
- vectors shown on a grid,
- vectors defined by their endpoints.
Exclusions
Students will not cover
- finding unit vectors in the direction of a given vector,
- vectors in three dimensions.
