Lesson Plan: Linear Inequalities Mathematics
This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to solve linear inequalities and two linear inequalities combined using “and” or “or” in one variable.
Objectives
Students will be able to
- find the set of values for which a linear inequality is true by simplifying and rearranging,
- find the set of values for which a linear inequality involving parentheses is true by expanding and rearranging,
- use set notation to describe the set of values for which either one or both of two linear inequalities are true by solving each inequality individually and combining the results.
Prerequisites
Students should already be familiar with
- systems of linear equations,
- inequalities and set notation.
Exclusions
Students will not cover
- interval notation,
- inequalities with more than one variable,
- higher order inequalities.
