Lesson Plan: What Plants Need to Grow Science • 2nd Grade
This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to describe what plants need to grow and conduct experiments to test what plants need.
Objectives
Students will be able to
- describe the five factors that allow plants to grow: air, light, water, nutrients from the soil, and room to grow,
- describe experiments testing the different conditions that affect plant growth: light, water, nutrients, and room.
Prerequisites
Students should already be familiar with
- the parts and functions of flowering plants (flower, stem, leaves, and roots),
- some of the things plants need to grow (e.g., sunlight, air, water).
Exclusions
Students will not cover
- the term carbon dioxide,
- experiments testing how air affects plant growth.
