Lesson Plan: Calculating Change: USD
This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to calculate change in cents and investigate the smallest number of coins needed to give an amount of change.
Objectives
Students will be able to
- write a subtraction equation to calculate change,
- identify which coins could be used to give an amount of change,
- find the smallest number of coins to give an amount of change.
Prerequisites
Students should already be familiar with
- recognizing coins and their values,
- subtracting by counting on or back,
- subtracting using the column method.
Exclusions
Students will not cover
- amounts greater than 100 cents.
