Lesson Plan: Scale Drawings and Models Mathematics
This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to identify a scale drawing, calculate the scale factor and the dimensions of both the scaled model and the actual object, and apply this to real-world problems.
Objectives
Students will be able to
- understand the relationship between the drawing scale, the actual length, and the drawing length,
- calculate the drawing scale, the actual length, and the drawing length,
- define minimization and enlargement and their relation with the drawing scale,
- decide whether a drawing scale represents a minimization or an enlargement.
Prerequisites
Students should already be familiar with
- ratio notation,
- ratio as fractions,
- proportion,
- unit conversion.
Exclusions
Students will not cover
- scales other than and .
