Lesson Plan: Converting between Metric and Customary Units of Area Mathematics
This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to compare and convert between area units of the metric system and those of the customary system and use this skill to solve real-world problems.
Objectives
Students will be able to
- convert between metric units of area and customary units of area, including square inches, square feet, square yards, square miles, square centimeters, square meters, and square kilometers,
- interpret and solve word problems involving conversion between customary and metric units of area.
Prerequisites
Students should already be familiar with
- customary units of area and converting between them (square inches, square feet, square yards, and square miles),
- metric units of area and converting between them (square centimeters, square meters, and square kilometers).
Exclusions
Students will not cover
- converting between units of volume.
