Objectives

Students will be able to

  • use fraction strips to determine whether a fraction is equivalent to one-half,
  • use number lines to determine whether a fraction is equivalent to one-half,
  • use fraction models to determine whether a fraction is equivalent to one-half.

Prerequisites

Students should already be familiar with

  • how to read and write fractions using word form,
  • how to read and write fractions using numbers,
  • unit and nonunit fractions.

Exclusions

Students will not cover

  • denominators greater than 12,
  • comparing or ordering fractions,
  • equivalent fractions other than those with a value of one-half.
