Lesson Plan: Free-Body Diagrams Physics
This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to analyze free-body diagrams and use them to determine the net force and unknown forces acting on objects.
Objectives
Students will be able to
- use a free-body diagram to determine the resultant force on an object,
- use a free-body diagram to determine the magnitude of a given force acting on an object.
Prerequisites
Students should already be familiar with
- the addition of vectors,
- the fact that the reaction force at a point on a surface is equal to the force perpendicular to the surface that is directed toward the surface.
Exclusions
Students will not cover
- calculations of accelerations from forces.
