Lesson Plan: Applications on Systems of Linear Equations in Three Variables
This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to solve real-world problems using a system of linear equations in three variables.
Objectives
Students will be able to
- translate real-world problems into a system of linear equations and solve the system using substitution or elimination,
- translate real-world problems into a system of linear equations and show that the system has no solutions,
- translate real-world problems into a system of linear equations and show that the system has infinite solutions.
Prerequisites
Students should already be familiar with
- solving systems of three linear equations,
- determining the number of solutions in a system of linear equations.
Exclusions
Students will not cover
- optimization,
- solving nonlinear systems,
- systems in more than three variables,
- systems with more than three equations.
