Objectives

Students will be able to

  • use skip counting to multiply by 8,
  • apply the strategy of doubling three times to multiply by 8,
  • recognize that × 8 multiplication facts are the same as × 4 facts doubled,
  • recite × 8 multiplication facts up to 80.

Prerequisites

Students should already be familiar with

  • representing multiplications using arrays and equal groups,
  • the multiplication symbol,
  • the concept of doubling,
  • × 2 and × 4 multiplication facts.

Exclusions

Students will not cover

  • multiples of 8 greater than 80,
  • solving word problems.
