Lesson Plan: Solving Two-Step Equations Using Models
This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to write and solve two-step equations where the unknown is a letter, using models.
Objectives
Students will be able to
- understand that both sides of an equation are equal or balanced,
- write two-step equations that match a mathematical statement,
- write two-step equations that represent real-life situations,
- use models to find an unknown in a two-step equation.
Prerequisites
Students should already be familiar with
- writing algebraic expressions,
- writing and solving one-step equations.
Exclusions
Students will not cover
- stating the degree of an equation,
- solving an equation with exponents.
