Objectives
Students will be able to
- add three- or four-digit numbers to four-digit numbers by counting on,
- add three- or four-digit numbers to four-digit numbers using decomposition,
- add three- or four-digit numbers to four-digit numbers using compensation,
- choose appropriate strategies to add.
Prerequisites
Students should already be familiar with
- mental addition and subtraction of numbers up to 1,000,
- column addition of numbers up to 10,000.
Exclusions
Students will not cover
- column addition or other paper-and-pencil methods of calculation.
