Lesson Plan: Turns and Angles

This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to describe angles as fractions of a turn and use the fact that a whole turn measures 360 degrees to work out the measures of fractions of a turn.

Objectives

Students will be able to

  • describe an angle as a fraction of a circle,
  • recognize that we measure angles in degrees,
  • recognize that a whole turn is 360, a half-turn is 180, and a right angle is 90,
  • find the measure of simple fractions of a turn.

Prerequisites

Students should already be familiar with

  • identifying and naming acute, obtuse, and right angles.

Exclusions

Students will not cover

  • measuring angles,
  • drawing angles.
