Lesson Plan: Half-Life Chemistry
This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to explain the half-life of radioactive elements.
Objectives
Students will be able to
- summarize radioactive decay,
- explain background radiation and how a Geiger–Muller tube can generate a count rate,
- define half-life ,
- use and interpret graphical representations of half-life,
- explain how half-life relates to carbon dating.
Prerequisites
Students should already be familiar with
- radioactivity,
- reading and interpreting simple curved graphs.
Exclusions
Students will not cover
- reactions and equations of nuclear decay.
