Lesson Plan: The Zero, First, and Second Conditionals English
This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to use the zero, first, and second conditionals to talk about the likelihood of various hypothetical events.
Objectives
Students will be able to
- use the zero conditional to talk about facts and actions that are usually true,
- use the first conditional to talk about possible events in the future,
- use the second conditional to talk about unlikely events in the future,
- use interrogative and negative forms of the zero, first, and second conditionals,
- use when and if to form the zero conditional,
- use unless to form the first conditional.
Prerequisites
Students should already be familiar with
- the future simple tense,
- the simple past tense,
- the simple present tense.
Exclusions
Students will not cover
- using past tense verbs with zero conditionals,
- using other present tenses with first conditionals,
- using other modal verbs instead of will with first conditionals,
- using other modal verbs instead of would with second conditionals.
