Lesson Plan: Pie Charts Mathematics

This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to use pie charts to analyze data, communicate information, and draw conclusions from this data.

Objectives

Students will be able to

  • understand that the measures of the angles of the sectors about the center of a circle sum to 360,
  • analyze pie charts by considering what percentage of the whole each segment represents,
  • interpret data in pie charts to answer questions.

Prerequisites

Students should already be familiar with

  • percentages of amounts,
  • analyzing pie charts divided into equal-sized segments.

Exclusions

Students will not cover

  • drawing pie charts.
