Lesson Plan: Magnetism and Electricity: Generators Science
This lesson plan includes the objectives, prerequisites, and exclusions of the lesson teaching students how to describe how generators work and where they are used.
Objectives
Students will be able to
- describe how an electric current is made using a magnet and wires,
- describe the energy changes in a generator,
- explain how a bicycle dynamo works,
- describe how generators are used in electric power stations.
Prerequisites
Students should already be familiar with
- what bar magnets and electromagnets are,
- the fact that an electric current flowing through a wire produces a magnetic field,
- kinetic and electrical energy,
- the fact that fuels are used to produce energy in a power plant.
Exclusions
Students will not cover
- the term electromagnetic induction,
- details of electricity generation in a power station.
